Hi! I'm Chris

I grew up in a small town in Derbyshire and was the first in my family to go to University. I studied chemistry, specialising in organic chemistry through a PhD and then a research fellowship leading to a Lectureship at the University of Bath. As a University Professor, I led an interdisciplinary research programme creating new chemical tools for drug discovery and new electronic materials for recognition and amplification in molecular sensors. I am proud to have mentored more than 35 talented PhD students and post-doctoral researchers, building partnerships with universities and biotechnology companies across the world. I co-founded and worked closely with a medical diagnostics company developing electrochemical technology to provide a point-of-care platform to test and treat bacterial infections.

I have worked for different Universities in key senior leadership roles with portfolios in research, enterprise, and education. My career to date has developed me as a collaborative leader and a strong advocate for mentoring and creating a culture of talent development. I have been lucky to be mentored by generous teachers, inspirational supervisors, and wise colleagues along my journey. I believe excellent science thrives on partnership and perspective. I can help provide tailored support to scientists to become confident leaders, innovators and founders.
